Rackspace Email Pricing Update – March 2026
Rackspace has implemented a significant increase in pricing for legacy email infrastructure, effective March 7. As a result, CountingWorks is adjusting Rackspace-hosted mailbox pricing beginning March 15.
What Changed?
Rackspace notified us of a 500% increase in reseller pricing for legacy email hosting infrastructure.
This increase impacts all Rackspace-hosted mailboxes associated with legacy environments.
As a result, effective March 15:
- Rackspace-hosted mailboxes will be billed at $5 per mailbox, per month
- This will appear as a separate line item on your invoice
For comparison, Rackspace’s current retail pricing for similar mailboxes is $10 per user, per month.
Why Is This Happening?
Across the hosting industry, providers are consolidating away from legacy infrastructure.
Older environments require:
- Higher manual maintenance
- Greater security oversight
- Lower automation
- Increased support resources
As the number of customers on legacy platforms declines, the cost per user rises.
Rather than absorb a 500% infrastructure increase, we are aligning pricing responsibly while continuing to support legacy email services during the broader platform transition.
Is CountingWorks Increasing Prices Beyond the Vendor Change?
No.
Historically, we heavily subsidized legacy email hosting.
The new $5 rate reflects:
- Increased third-party infrastructure costs
- Ongoing support and administrative overhead
- Continued service during the Legacy platform sunset period
We are charging significantly below Rackspace’s retail rate.
What Are My Options?
You may:
- Continue using Rackspace email at $5 per mailbox per month.
OR - Transition to a modern email provider such as:
- Google Workspace
-
- Microsoft 365 (Outlook / Teams)
Modern providers offer:
- Enhanced security
- Improved deliverability
- Greater infrastructure stability
- Reduced pricing volatility
Does This Impact the Legacy Platform Sunset?
The Legacy platform remains scheduled for retirement on August 31.
The recent vendor pricing change reinforces why modernization is necessary and aligns with our long-term transition plan.
Can CountingWorks Help With My Email Setup?
Yes — if we manage your domain name.
If your domain is managed by CountingWorks, we will assist with required DNS updates related to your email provider, including:
- MX record updates
- SPF configuration
- DKIM configuration
- DMARC updates
These DNS changes are included as part of your ongoing service with us.
Please note:
- We do not provide mailbox migration or email transfer services.
- We do not set up or provision mailboxes.
- Ongoing mailbox management is handled directly through your email provider (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, etc.).
If your domain is not managed by CountingWorks, your email provider can supply the necessary DNS instructions for your registrar.
