Phishing Email Attempts

Malicious users often imitate email providers to trick people to click their links or pay to unlock their accounts. They are able to mimic valid looking emails but with the increase in spam protections, they're getting easier to spot and easier for email programs to send to spam.

For clients who have email through our company, you may get scam messages pretending to look like Rackspace customer service. Please note that these emails are NOT legitimate emails sent by Rackspace. Rackspace will never initiate communications with you, they would strictly speak to us as the email provider.

A few additional reminders include:

  • If you notice emails that contain suspicious links or attachments, please avoid clicking on any links.

  • Never share personal information

  • Don't trust the 'name' of the email, you can set the names to whatever you want. Look at the sender's email domain, sometimes they will look close to the real thing and sometimes they will be completely different than expected, as seen below (email pretends to be from Rackspace but their domain email is generic and that domain isn't functioning). Companies that would send legitimate emails have all of that set up properly, unlike phishing emails.
  • Visit websites directly from browsers and bookmarks - not email

  • Double-check attachments before you click or download them

  • Watch for misspellings and strange greetings (Hello Madam!)

  • Be suspicious of emails that evoke a sense of urgency and ask for your immediate action

  • When it comes to wire transfers, be extra vigilant

  • When in doubt - DO NOTHING!
